When replying to a message that was sent to a long list of
recipients, think before you send. Do you really want to send the reply
to EVERYONE on the list? If there are people on the list you don't
know, do you really want to send your reply to them?
Keep attachments small. If you are sending pictures keep
them under 20K or better yet, post the pictures to a web site and just
send the URL.
Don't pass on junk mail! If you're not smart enough to
write something interesting yourself then you are probably not smart
enough to select something for me to read.
Don't send e-greetings! (see below)
Don't send e-mail messages with attachments of e-mail
messages with attachments of e-mail messages with
attachments of e-mail messages. This usually happens when you break rule
5 above.
When replying to an e-mail with an attached picture please delete
the picture in the reply. We've already seen it and don't need to wait
for it to download again.
Address Etiquette
Don't
give out other peoples e-mail addresses without their permission!
Hey, I don't give your phone number to anyone who asks for it. I won't
give out your street address. I won't give out your e-mail address.
Please return the favor.
Web Invitations only exist to collect e-mail addresses. Don't use
them! Never type other peoples addresses into web pages.
e-greetings are EVIL!
When you use a service to send someone one of these EVIL greetings you
are giving the recipient's email address to the service. They collect
these addresses and either sell them to spamsters or they use them for
their own marketing efforts.
These companies also use this information to build giant databases of
what people know what other people. This information is combined and
cross referenced with other information to build complex profiles about
you that erode your freedom and subject you to directed marketing.
Think. When you send mail to a lot of people you are giving
everyone on the list the names and e-mail addresses of everyone else on
the list. Learn to use BCC: (blind carbon copy) and use when
appropriate.
